Are You Hearing God’s Call?

Are you ready for the call of God in your life?

I bet Jonah thought he was ready for the call of God in his life.  He was a prophet.  He was supposed to be.  He probably prayed about it ... "Lord, let me hear your voice clearly."

But when that call came ... Jonah wasn't ready -- he ran in the opposite direction and went as far away as possible from the call of God on his life.  And what was that call? Go to a people you despise and tell them to repent or else God would destroy them.  And the reason Jonah gives for running ... he knew that God is compassionate and gracious, abounding in love and slow to anger and He won't send calamity unless absolutely necessary.  And Jonah did not want the Ninevites to experience God's mercy because they were a cruel, violent, & hated people.

Well, you know how God got Jonah's attention - the big fish.

God not only wanted to change Nineveh, He wanted to change Jonah too.

We too live in a violent, adulterous, & sinful generation. Maybe not in the same way as Nineveh, but sinful just the same. And God is calling The Church to be salt & light in a very dark world, that is deceived by the forces of evil. And if you are a Christian, you are a part of The Church that is called by God and chosen by God ... just like Jonah ... to let folks know about the love and judgement of God on our world.

Don't run from God's call on your life. It never ends well. You can't shove Him under a rug and ignore His ways and His will and expect the blessings of God to be wonderful. God blessed Jonah with a big fish in his disobedience ... and it was a blessing - for Jonah and for Nineveh.

Consider what God is asking of you in this generation!
