There Is A Remnant

After God's tremendous victory through Elijah on Mt. Carmel (1 Kings 18), Jezebel threatened to kill Elijah.  Elijah ran for his life - he was exhausted and disheartened.  God took care of him miraculously ... gave him 2 meals prepared by an angel and he slept at length.  And then he took a 40 day and night trip to the mountain of God ... miraculously sustained by The Lord.  After resting in a cave, God spoke to him in a quiet voice.  There had been a tornado like windstorm, an earthquake, a fire... but God was not in those.  It was in the quiet, gentle whisper of our Heavenly Father who is restoring Elijah.

What are you doing here Elijah?  Elijah pours out his frustration.  I'm the only one left Lord, they've torn down all the altars, they've rejected your covenant (which was given right where Elijah is talking), and they've killed all your prophets.  And now they're trying to kill me too.

Depression and discouragement can make you think you're all alone, nothing is going right, nobody cares, and it doesn't matter anyway.  But the truth for Elijah was:  Obadiah & his 100 prophets were alive AND God said, "I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.”

A remnant.  A quiet, unassuming, faithful to God people.  Amidst all the evil in the land of Israel, God still saw each individual who was not going along with the crowd, each person who still loved him and prayed for His help.  Those who didn't accept the 'new woke philosophy' and 'critical race theory' of their day.  No, they were faithful to The Lord, they were not alone, and God saw them all.

So God encouraged Elijah and gave him several tasks to accomplish.  Yes, God is at work in our world and in individual lives even when it 'seems like' evil is winning.  It's only temporary.  Remain faithful.  Trust God.  Live for Him and love Him... all the days of your life.
